Custom European Cabinetry in Dallas: What We Build Beyond the In-Stock Catalog

August 27, 2026
Our Cabinets

Most people find Modernform through our in-stock inventory. You need a kitchen's worth of cabinets, you want the wholesale price, and we have Shaker, Slim Shaker and European frameless lines sitting in the Carrollton warehouse ready to ship. That is the bulk of what we do and we are not shy about it.

What that reputation hides is the other half of the shop. We also build custom European cabinetry — cabinets designed for one specific house, in sizes and finishes that are not in any catalog, for projects where the stock dimensions were never going to work. If you have been assuming Modernform is a warehouse that ships boxes, this is the part of the business you have not seen.

What "Custom European" Actually Means Here

European frameless construction is different from the traditional face-frame cabinet most American kitchens are built from. There is no frame across the front of the box, so the door covers the entire opening and the interior is fully accessible. Drawers run the full width. A run of cabinets reads as one continuous surface instead of a series of framed openings.

Going custom on top of that means the box dimensions, door sizes, finishes and interior configuration get drawn for your project rather than picked from a list. That covers the situations stock cabinetry cannot solve: a ceiling height that wants a taller upper run, an island built around specific appliance dimensions, a finish matched to millwork elsewhere in the house, or a bathroom vanity sized to a wall that is not a standard width.

Where Custom Usually Becomes Necessary

In our experience it comes down to a handful of situations. An architecturally driven house where the cabinetry has to follow the design language rather than interrupt it. A remodel in an older home where nothing is square or standard. A whole-house project where kitchen, bathrooms and closets need to read as one coherent system. Or a spec build where the cabinetry is a selling feature and the builder cannot afford for it to look like everyone else's.

A Recent Project: The Maistro Homes Build on San Cristóbal

The clearest example we can point to is the organic Mediterranean home Maistro Homes built at 8215 San Cristóbal Drive in East Dallas — the kind of architecturally significant house that gets its own unveiling event for brokers. The custom European cabinetry and the bathroom vanities in that house came from us.

That project is useful to talk about because it shows the actual range. The organic Mediterranean style does not tolerate cabinetry that looks like it came off a shelf. The cabinets had to carry warmth and material honesty while staying visually quiet, which is exactly the problem frameless European construction is good at solving — the eye reads surfaces and grain rather than a grid of frames and gaps.

It also makes a point about who we are willing to work with. The same shop that built cabinetry for a broker-event showcase home in East Dallas is the shop selling a homeowner in Plano one in-stock Shaker kitchen at wholesale. Same team, same building, same pricing model. What changes is the scope of the order, not how seriously the project gets taken.

Does Custom Mean You Lose the Wholesale Price?

Custom work is priced differently from pulling stock off the shelf — it involves design time, specific material orders and a build rather than a pick. Anyone telling you otherwise is not being straight with you.

What does carry over is the structural reason our prices are lower. We are the manufacturer. There is no retail showroom between you and the shop taking its margin on the way through. So a custom European kitchen from Modernform is priced against other custom cabinet shops, and that is a comparison we are comfortable with, but it is not the same number as an in-stock order and we will not pretend it is.

Can You Mix Custom and In-Stock in One Project?

This is the option most people do not realize they have, and it is often the right answer. Use custom where the project genuinely demands it — the island, a wall of tall cabinets, a vanity in an odd-sized bathroom — and use in-stock cabinets for the rest of the run where standard dimensions work perfectly well.

Done well, the finished kitchen looks entirely custom because the pieces people actually look at were built for the room. The budget goes where it shows. Because both come from the same shop, the finishes match rather than approximately match, which is the usual failure when a project sources custom pieces from one supplier and stock cabinets from another.

How a Custom Project Starts

It starts with a conversation, not a form. Call the Carrollton showroom at (469) 521-9096 or come by at 1520 Luna Rd, Suite 140, Carrollton, TX 75006 with whatever you have — plans, dimensions, photos of the space, or images of a look you are chasing. We will tell you honestly which parts of the project need custom work and which parts an in-stock line will handle just as well.

Coming to the showroom helps more on a custom project than on a stock order. Finishes and door profiles are hard to judge from a screen, and standing in front of the actual materials tends to settle decisions that would otherwise take three rounds of emails.
